Scott Hinch lived for the gym—until his body sent him a warning he couldn’t ignore. In 2019, the 31-year-old weightlifter suffered a seizure, leading to a life-altering diagnosis: a grade 2 astrocytoma, a brain tumor with a grim 3-to-5-year survival outlook.

Reflecting on the past, Scott realizes he had overlooked red flags. “I had headaches and nosebleeds, but I blamed it on training too hard,” he says. By the time doctors found the tumor, it was too late for a full cure.
Surgery and chemotherapy initially kept the cancer at bay, but it returned in 2023, forcing Scott into another exhausting round of treatment. Now, his once-active life is dominated by fatigue and dependence on his mother, Fiona, for care.
Determined to turn their pain into purpose, Fiona and her sister are raising awareness and funds for brain tumor research. “We can’t change Scott’s diagnosis, but maybe we can help others,” she says. For Scott, the fight continues—one day at a time.
